Here at WiFi SPARK we have welcomed Li Worrall from Sidmouth College into our office this week.
Instead of starting his Summer holidays, Li has spent the week working full time to gain experience working with technology. Among the subjects he studies, he is particularly interested in Computer Science, so he pursued work experience with us.
Li has spent the week working with the Development team, lead by Rick Timmis (pictured). His focus this week has been on the Linux Operating System, Virtualisation technology, which lead to him installing the WiFi SPARK SPARK ® controller software. He has also been working on Business Management systems, so through the week he has been integrated as a full member of the WiFi SPARK agile software development team.
Rick commented ‘it has been great working with Li. We work in advanced software development and we like to meet students who have both an aptitude and a passion for computing.’
Li identified that he particularly enjoyed learning about how the software is developed and he gained a lot from seeing how the Development team approached problem-solving.
In order to ensure we are hiring the best new talent, WiFi SPARK also has an Apprenticeship scheme. Dan Smith is our WiFi SPARK Apprentice, and has been with the company for 10 months, working alongside studying for his BTEC Level 3 in Computing. He works across the business, getting invaluable instruction from the professional Software Developers, Engineers, and Computer Scientists. In his time with the company Dan has excelled in both his studies and his contribution to the business. Rick stated ‘Dan has proven to be a fantastic addition to the team, he is helpful, eager to learn and has both an innate talent for the work, and a huge capacity to absorb new information and apply that insight in his work.’
Here at WiFi SPARK we recognise that our incredibly skilled workforce has invaluable knowledge and we encourage them to share with the new generation of future IT professionals.
