The UK Rail Industry Awards brought together forward-thinking companies in celebration of excellence and innovation across the industry. The event was an exclusive networking opportunity and is recognised as a prestigious and high profile rail industry event across the country.
There were 23 award categories including Outstanding Innovation, Passenger Safety and Design Innovation – for which WiFi SPARK was a finalist. The Design Innovation category looks for solutions to problems through innovative design and cost reduction, whilst also improving performance, quality and safety.
The Continuously Connected Passenger Journey is the realisation of the ambition from Chiltern Railways to deliver high-quality free WiFi connectivity to their passengers throughout their journeys, whether they are at the station or on the train.
WiFi SPARK delivered this by both collaborating completely and openly with Icomera, and by using their advanced skill sets to create the technical solution for the Continuously Connected Passenger Journey. Both WiFi SPARK and Icomera adapted their WiFi service so that passengers can roam between the station and train, keeping their devices continuously connected to the WiFi.
The judges scored the Continuously Connected Passenger Journey an impressive 83/100 points, commenting that “Great that finally someone has taken this approach and cracked this issue!!”
Chiltern Railways, WiFi SPARK and Icomera are proud to have delivered this first for the rail industry, enabling passengers to experience an optimal WiFi connection throughout their journey.
